Brunette Water well

The company

Over 100 years of expertise

Established in 1900, Les puits artésiens Brunette & Frères (Brunette the water expert) is a fourth-generation family business that has been operating in the Outaouais and Laurentians for over 100 years.

Over the years, the company has become one of the leaders in its field. The unique expertise of its staff has always helped ensure that clients are provided with the best solutions regardless of the type or complexity of the drilling project. The valuable practical knowledge acquired has been passed along from generation to generation and has allowed the company to always accurately assess its clients' needs, to provide them with sound advice, and to win their trust to become one of the top referrals in the drilling industry.

We have drilled several thousand artesian wells during our years of operation and our drilling team is without a doubt the most knowledgeable about the geology of the land in the various areas we service.

The company's longevity is proof of the professionalism and respect that we display in our dealings with clients.

Background

The early 1900s

At the start of the century, Osias Brunette began working as a well digger in the Mirabel area using a horse-drawn steam driller.

The company expands in the Mirabel area

Jean-Paul Brunette took over from his father and established J.P. Brunette & Fils in Mirabel with his sons Gilles, Yvon and Réjean. The Laurentian community continued to place their trust in the Brunette family business.

The company quickly grew and it became necessary to hire staff from outside the family. However, a family member was always operating the drilling equipment.

The company's reputation has allowed it to participate in large-scale projects on various construction sites throughout Quebec:

  • Drilling in Iqaluit (Frobisher Bay), which is now the capital of the territory of Nunavut;
  • At the Olympic Stadium in Montreal where a company from France had designed an anchoring system that required drilling holes 12 inches in diameter, at a 47-degree angle and 250 feet deep. A part was specially designed for this project, which enabled them to dig at this angle with their drill;

  • In the early 1980s, Hydro Québec was installing towers throughout the St. Lawrence River near Valleyfield. In order to do so, a drilling rig had to be transported to a platform in the middle of the river, in 30 feet of water. Once it was installed, the drill had to dig through 60 feet of sediment and silica (an extremely abrasive stone) to reach the required depth of 1200 feet!

This type of commitment and innovative spirit seem typical. "We always meet our deadlines and honour our contracts and when the need arises we can always count on the experience of a family member to resolve the technical problems," Gilles proudly adds.

Four generations of experts in drilling and water supply

As a fourth generation of Brunettes was getting ready to join the company in 1988, Les puits artésiens Brunette & Frères (Brunette the water expert) opened a subsidiary in Gatineau. Under the leadership of Gilles Brunette, this family business operated with much flexibility in the greater Outaouais area. In the beginning, Gilles travelled from Lachute to Gatineau every morning and evening. However, for a number of years now, Stéphane Brunette has been overseeing the company's operations.

In the Laurentians, the family's reputation in the drilling field is now being upheld by
Les puits artésiens Brunette & Frères (Brunette the water expert) under the direction of Alain Trottier, a cousin of the Brunette family.

In the numerous communities in the Outaouais and Laurentians, in addition to residential, municipal and commercial artesian well drilling services, Les puits artésiens Brunette & Frères (Brunette the water expert) also offer hydraulic fracturing, cementation, filter and geothermal drilling services. They also supply and install submersible pumps.

In order to keep pace with new technical developments, Stéphane participates in various activities in the drilling and geothermal industry.

As for what the future holds, Stéphane and Alain remain confident. "We believe that the coming years will be promising for the drilling and geothermal industry. If well diggers want to be regarded as professionals, they must act as professionals. We, and our work, depend on our good reputation."

In conclusion

As Stephane's father always stressed "Nothing is easy in this business & we work hard and it's hard work. In this business, it is important to have a certain vision and to be able to achieve your goals. When dealing with a client, it's not just about gallons and feet of water & when we finish a contract our client has become a friend and therefore the best referral for future clients!"
